主題:不請自來的感謝信 

經歷了過去幾週網上學習之後,我想寫這封信,分享我對我女兒的觀察,是我直接和通過朋友觀察到的情況,我想說的是,兩年前我為她選擇了這所以學術為主導的小型高中就讀,即使在這困難時期也能繼續“派發紅利”。

當灣區政府發布就地避難令時,讓父母分享對可能發生的事情的想法和選擇,據我所知,這在其他學校並不多見,非常感謝的,學生們有機會對遠程學習有一個調整期,因此我覺得舊金山藝術中學的學生,在能夠回到學習環境方面比許多其他學校領先了 2-3 週。   

我問我女兒情況怎麼樣,她覺得進展順利,她的優點和我一樣:轉向在線學習是一項輕鬆但需要有組織能力的任務。小班制讓老師更容易參與進來,因此學習環境得以擴展和延續。

正如我在第一年和第二年所分享的那樣,我覺得教職員工的平易近人,以及一對一的關注和支持,的確幫助我女兒在學業上取得了優異成績,並養成了良好的學習習慣。

我的孩子們真的很喜歡加入舊金山藝術中學社區,我們從一所大型公立學校順利過渡到舊金山藝術中學的小型學校,老師和學生都熱情好客。我的孩子們從敬業的老師那裡獲得了非凡的個性化關注,事實上,我兒子被邀請參加加速數學課程,這在大型公立學校是不可能發生的。

Subject: Unsolicited letter of appreciation

I wanted to write this letter after the past few weeks of online learning, and share my observations of [my daughter]’s experiences vs. what I’m observing directly and through friends, and express how I feel fortunate that she chose a smaller, academically oriented high school to go to two years ago, which keeps paying dividends even during these difficult times.

As the Bay Area governments were issuing shelter in place orders, you involved parents in sharing your thoughts and options on what can happen. As far as I heard, this was not commonly done by other schools and much appreciated. As a result, students had a chance to have an adjustment period on what distance learning can look like, and I feel HSArts students as a result were 2-3 weeks ahead of many other schools in being able to get back to a learning environment.

I asked [my daughter] what she feels is going well, and her highlights were the same as me: it was an easy and organized effort to move to online learning. Small classroom sizes make it easier to be engaged by the teacher so the learning environment continues.

As I had shared after our first year and into our second year, I felt the approachability of faculty and staff and the 1 : 1 support options really helped [my daughter] both excel academically and gain good habits.

My children have really loved joining the [HSArts] community. We had a smooth transition from a large public school to the small school setting at [HSArts]. The faculty and students were warm and welcoming. They receive exceptional individualized attention from their dedicated teachers. In fact, my son was invited to join an accelerated math course, something that could never happen in the large public school setting.

We are especially happy with our decision to join this small school community during this time of sheltering in place (SIP). The small class size has been a beneficial factor during SIP because there has been no lapse in their academic progress. In fact, their coursework and discussions continue to be demanding and rigorous. There is no doubt that this small school community has been and continues to be a wonderful learning experience for both of our children.
