SUMMARY:HSArts 2025 Spring Art Competition
DESCRIPTION:Submit your best original two-dimensional artwork for a chance 
 to win a scholarship up to $3000!\n\nRULES AND REGULATIONS\nFOR STUDENTS A
 ND TEACHERS\nAbout the Competition\nSan Francisco High School of the Arts 
 (HSArts) endeavors to recognize\, encourage\, and nurture artistic talent 
 in the Bay Area. Local youth artists are invited to submit their original 
 work to the HSArts Spring 2025 Arts Competition. Participants should submi
 t a high-quality photo of their work to HSArts. A panel of professional ar
 tists will select the winners based on:\n\n 	Overall presentation\n 	Artis
 try\n 	Aesthetic value\n 	Color scheme\n 	Originality\n 	Composition and d
 esign\n\nWinners of the Spring 2025 HSArts Art Competition will be recogni
 zed at an awards ceremony held at the Herbst Theater San Francisco on May 
 17th\, 2025. Award-winning artworks will be displayed in Herbst Theater. A
 ll contest winners will receive scholarships to support their arts educati
 on at HSArts\, its middle school\, or its Young Artists Program. \n\n&nbs
 p\;\n\nStudents should select an appropriate category when submitting thei
 r entry:\n\n 	High school - 9th grade to 12th grade who are confident with
  their artistic skills and creativity.\n 	Middle school - under 9th grade 
 who are confident with their artistic skills and creativity.\n\nIn the cas
 e of initial misplacement\, judges may move the entrant's submission to a 
 more appropriate level. Entrants will be notified. Skill level will not be
  altered.\n\n\nHSArts Scholarship Awards\nHigh School:\n► First Place: $
 3\,000\n► Second Place: $1\,000\n► Third Place: $500\n►Honorable Men
 tion: $100\n\n\n\nMiddle School:\n► First Place: $1\,000\n► Second Pla
 ce: $500\n► Third Place: $200\n►Honorable Mention: $50\nAll scholarshi
 p awards must be used towards payment for HSArts tuition (both middle scho
 ol and high school)\, enrollment in the Young Artists Program\, art worksh
 ops\, HSArts Summer Camps\, or HSArts program materials. Awards will be gr
 anted to entries that meet placement standards\, as determined by the judg
 ing committee. Not every category is guaranteed an award winner.\n\n\n\n\n
 Submission Deadline: April 15\, 2025\n&nbsp\;\n\nHSArts will announce cont
 est winners on or before May 17\, 2025\, on the HSArts website. HSArts wil
 l display winning works on campus for at least one month.\n\n\nHSArts will

 orm is April 15\, 2025\n\n\n\n\n\nSUBMISSION RULES AND GUIDELINES\nThe rul
 es and regulations included here apply to the HSArts Spring 2025 Art Compe
 tition. \n\n 	The contest is open to all students living in the San Franc
 isco Bay Area.\n 	Each entry must be an original two-dimensional artwork o
 f Western or Eastern style\, with the exception of reproductions of any cl
 assical realist artwork before the 19th Century.\n 	Copies of other artist
 s’ works or paintings\, from other artists’ photographs or published m
 aterials will not be accepted unless students can show proof of approval o
 r acknowledgment from the original artist.\n 	Any plagiarized work will be
  immediately disqualified.\n 	Artwork should be completed within the last 
 two years\,\n 	Award-winning works must be sent to HSArts before the award
  ceremony date\; otherwise\, the award qualification will be revoked and p
 assed on to the next participant in line.\n 	Dimensions: Pre-framed allowa
 ble dimensions. Winning artwork will be placed on exhibit at HSArts. All w
 inning pieces must arrive in San Francisco framed. (See framing guidelines
  below.)\n\n\nAccepted Mediums\nAccepted mediums for the two-dimensional a
 rtwork are as follows:\n\n 	Paintings: \n\n 	Oil\n 	acrylic paints\n 	Wat
 ercolor\n 	Gouache\n 	Tempera\n 	Chinese painting.\n\n\n\n\n 	Drawings: \
 n\n 	colored pencil\n 	Graphite\n 	Ink\n 	Pastel (must be fixed)\n 	Charco
 al (must be fixed)\n\n\n\nARTWORK CONTENT GUIDELINES: \nNo copies of othe
 r artists’ works or paintings from other artists’ photographs or from 
 published material will be allowed unless students can show proof of appro
 val or acknowledgement from the original artist. Any plagiarized work will
  be immediately disqualified.\n\nArtwork must adhere to the policy of the 
 HSArts Art Competition Commission (the Committee). In accordance with this
  policy exhibits MUST NOT:\n\n 	depict subjects of contemporary political 
 controversy \n 	depict sensational images \n 	be gruesome in nature\n 	d
 epict images or subjects that are not school appropriate\n\nWhile it is no
 t the intent to censor artwork\, HSArts wishes to avoid artwork that is in
 appropriate for display at our school.\n\n\n\n\nFraming Guidelines\n\n\nAp
 plies only to winning artwork.\n\nAll winning artwork must be protected an
 d enhanced by a sturdy frame. If your piece is selected for display in the
  HSArts Art Competition exhibit\, it must be delivered in a frame. All wor
 ks\, including frame\, must weigh no more than 15 lbs and measure no large
 r than 26 inches high\, 26 inches wide\, and 4 inches deep\, to the outsid
 e of the frame.\n\nEnsure that the framer is informed of the size and weig
 ht limit. Confirm the work meets all guidelines before sending to San Fran
 cisco.\n\nFrames must be made of wood or metal. No plastic “snap on” o
 r metal frames that can easily come apart will be accepted. All artwork\, 
 except paintings in oil or acrylic on canvas\, must be protected by plexig
 lass or glass. Plexiglass is preferred. If glass is used\, special packing
  and shipping arrangements are encouraged to ensure that the work is not d
 amaged if the glass breaks.\n\nMatting can enhance or detract from a work 
 of art and should be carefully selected.\n\nThe artwork will be hung from 
 vertical wires. Two sturdy screw-in eye hooks must be attached at the top 
 left and right sides of the back of the frame for hanging to prevent the w
 ork from leaning forward or hanging unevenly. Remove any wire between the 
 hooks before sending in entry.\n\nDo not attach labels\, ribbons\, etc.\, 
 to the front of the piece or underneath the glass or Plexiglass.\n\nPlease
  indicate which side is up by marking arrows pointing towards the top on t
 he back.\n\n\n\n\n
